Excerpt from the Day 11 Meditate Now Email What is Guided Meditation?
First, a definition. By "guided" meditation, I mean that words, usually spoken, guide or lead the process. The guidance varies considerably from facilitator to facilitator. Some guided meditations are live (either spontaneous or scripted) and others are recorded (either spontaneous or scripted). Some are even written. Those who use guided visualization meditation have a variety of approaches. Most direct the meditator to see or visualize or envision specific images. My own process is to provide a space and make suggestions so that the meditator can see, visualize, feel, sense, or otherwise experience unique meditations; in fact, for many meditators, each time they listen, my guided meditations are a different experience for them. I also have a process that no one else uses because I created it, called "Focused Energy Work." So, not all guided meditations are created equal. Guidance Helps You to Focus The Meditate Now Audio Day 11 commentary explains why I'm an advocate of guidance in meditation: it help you to focus your attention. You may not always need it or want it, but when you do, you'll find it extremely helpful. If you're enrolled in the Meditate Now Program, you'll receive many suggestions and resources in the messages on Days 12 and 13 about guided meditation. Six of my own guided meditations are shown below with their cover art. If you're not already signed up for this free program, I invite you to read about it and subscribe.
